The Franciscan College of the Immaculate Conception (FCIC), represented by Mrs. Aisa C. Porcare, RM, BSM, MMPHA, Dean of the College of Midwifery, actively took part in the consultative meeting organized by the Association of Philippine Schools of Midwifery, Inc. (APSOM) on March 12, 2026, at Lime Hotel, Pasay City, Manila . The event gathered academic leaders, faculty members, and professionals in the field of midwifery to discuss advancements, challenges, and proposed reforms in midwifery education across the country.
The meeting opened with a message from Hon. Melchor dela Cruz Jr., MD, FPOGS, Chairman of the Professional Regulatory Board (PRB) of Midwifery, who emphasized the importance of innovation and professional excellence in shaping future midwives. Throughout the morning sessions, participants engaged in discussions on Table of Specification in the obstetrics, infant care, foundations of midwifery practice, primary health care, and professional growth. Distinguished speakers included Hon. Corazon Landicho, RM, Hon. Lourdes Mangahas, RM, and Hon. Lerma Valenzuela, RM.
In the afternoon, the program highlighted the PRB Midwifery Roadmap 2026–2028, academic exchanges, and proposed amendments to Republic Act 7392, the law governing midwifery practice in the Philippines. These sessions underscored the evolving role of midwives in community health and the need for updated policies to reflect modern healthcare realities. APSOM Vice-President Mr. Jessie Orano, RN, RM, MAN, MHHA, noted that the consultative meeting was not just about compliance but about shaping the future of midwifery education.
For FCIC, represented by Dean Porcare, participation in this consultative meeting reinforces its mission to provide quality education rooted in service and innovation. The insights gained will inform curriculum development, faculty training, and student opportunities, ensuring that FCIC midwifery graduates remain competitive and community-focused.
