The Franciscan College of the Immaculate Conception (FCIC), through its College of Teacher Education, joined the PAFTE Region VIII delegation for a benchmarking activity at Saint Louis University (SLU) in Baguio City, held in line with PAFTE’s mission to promote excellence and innovation in teacher education.
Representing FCIC were Sister Mary Michael G. Bactong, OSF, School President; Dr. Maria Victoria A. Gonzaga, Dean of the College of Teacher Education; and Mr. Dellio Belmores, Program Head of the College of Teacher Education. Together with other PAFTE Region VIII officers and members, the delegation visited SLU to learn from its best practices in academic leadership, instructional approaches, research initiatives, and institutional management.
Hosted by Dr. Stephenie O. Busbus, Director of the Office of Global Relations, Alumni Affairs, and Scholarship Programs, the benchmarking activity showcased SLU’s remarkable facilities, buildings, offices, and learning environments that serve as models of educational excellence. The visit provided participants with meaningful insights on how infrastructure and innovation can complement quality instruction and faculty development.
Despite experiencing a tremor that struck Baguio area during their stay, the PAFTE Region VIII and FCIC delegation demonstrated resilience and steadfast commitment towards excellence with the benchmarking activity. Their courage and unity amid unexpected circumstances reflected the shared values of fortitude, faith, and dedication that define the teaching profession.
“SLU’s educational culture is deeply rooted in academic excellence and service, values that strongly resonate with our Franciscan mission,” shared Sister Mary Michael G. Bactong, OSF. “This experience inspires us to continuously enhance our own programs and create a nurturing environment for future teachers.”
Through this benchmarking initiative, PAFTE Region VIII and participating institutions like FCIC reaffirm their shared commitment to strengthen academic collaboration and institutional growth across the region. The activity also encouraged dialogue on sustaining educational innovation and fostering partnerships that uplift the teaching profession.
As FCIC continues its pursuit of forming competent, compassionate, and Christ-centered educators, this experience at Saint Louis University stands as a meaningful reminder that true educational progress thrives through collaboration, openness, and continuous learning.
