FCIC Upholds Commitment and Resilience at the 54th PAFTE National and 15th International Convention in Baguio City

The Franciscan College of the Immaculate Conception (FCIC), through its College of Teacher Education, proudly joined educators and leaders from across the country in the 54th PAFTE National and 15th International Convention held on October 9–10, 2025, in Saint Louis University, Baguio City. With the theme “Teacher Education for Sustainable Development: Integrating SDGs for Teacher and Learner Empowerment” the convention gathered members of the Philippine Association for Teachers and Educators (PAFTE) for an exchange of innovative ideas and best practices aimed at strengthening the country’s teacher education programs.

Representing the institution were Sister Mary Michael G. Bactong, OSF, FCIC School President; Dr. Maria Victoria A. Gonzaga, Dean of the College of Teacher Education; and Mr. Dellio Belmores, Program Head of the College of Teacher Education. Alongside PAFTE Region VIII officers and members, the FCIC delegation actively participated in the sessions that highlighted transformative leadership, technological integration, and quality assurance in teacher education.

However, on Day 1 of the convention, participants experienced an unexpected earthquake that struck Baguio City, prompting organizers to cancel the remaining sessions for the safety of everyone present. Despite the unforeseen event, the FCIC delegates, together with other educators nationwide, exemplified resilience, faith, and solidarity amid the circumstances.

“Even in the face of uncertainty, our dedication to learning and leadership remains steadfast,” expressed Dr. Gonzaga, reflecting on the experience. “It was a moment that reminded us to stay grounded, compassionate, and hopeful—values that define who we are as educators.”

The experience became a profound reminder that even in disruption, the mission of education endures. Sister Mary Michael G. Bactong, OSF, commended the spirit of unity among PAFTE members and reaffirmed FCIC’s commitment to forming competent, compassionate, and Christ-centered educators who can stand resilient in any challenge.

Though the convention was cut short, its impact continues to resonate. FCIC and PAFTE remain committed to pursuing greater heights in teacher education, embodying the strength, faith, and perseverance that lead to meaningful transformation within the academe and beyond.
