On April 16, 2025, the employees of the Franciscan College of the Immaculate Conception (FCIC) came together for their Annual Recollection at the peaceful and refreshing St. Anthony of Padua Noviciate House in Milagro, Ormoc City. This yearly spiritual activity offered a meaningful break from their regular duties, allowing each employee to reflect, recharge, and reconnect with their faith. The recollection was guided by the theme “Mary at the Foot of the Cross: Mother of the Pilgrims of Hope”, a message that perfectly aligned with the lent, the Jubillee Year and the realities of daily life. It was facilitated by Rev. Fr. Randy G. Rendora, OFM, the Novice Master, along with several Franciscan Brothers who warmly welcomed the participants.
Fr. Randy opened the recollection by explaining the inspiration behind the theme. He emphasized that Mary, the Mother of Jesus, holds a very special place in the hearts of many Filipinos. Culturally, Filipinos have a strong attachment to their mothers, and this makes it easier to understand Mary’s deep love and concern for her children. He pointed out that the surest way to grow closer to Jesus is through the heart of His Mother, Mary. As a loving mother, she always intercedes for us, praying and looking after us, especially in our most difficult times. Fr. Randy shared powerful message of Mary at the foot of the Cross where she never left Jesus, even during His suffering and death. This reminded everyone that Mary also never leaves us, especially when we are in pain or lost.
The recollection also focused on a deeper message, that life is a pilgrimage. Fr. Randy explained that in this life journey, we may face many detours, make wrong turns, or lose our way. However, what matters is that all of us are heading toward one direction, which is Heaven. The challenges we face, though difficult, teach us lessons that help us grow. These experiences shape us into stronger and wiser individuals. He encouraged everyone to see each trial not as a burden, but as a part of God’s bigger plan. Most importantly, he reminded the group that even when life feels heavy, there is always hope, because God never abandons His people, just as Mary never left Jesus. He also reminded the participants of His promise to us, “Behold, I will make things new.”.
Aside from the soul-nourishing talk, the employees also had the chance to connect with one another on a deeper level. One of the highlights of the day was an activity led by the Franciscan Brothers called “Cup of Feelings.” In this activity, participants answered questions from their paper cup and shared thier answers within small groups. This simple yet heartfelt exercise opened doors for honest sharing and emotional connection. Tears flowed as colleagues shared personal stories, struggles, and words of appreciation for one another. Many realized that even though they work in the same place every day, they rarely get the chance to express their gratitude or truly listen to one another. This moment of vulnerability turned into a beautiful display of support, unity, and love.
The recollection ended with a Holy Mass presided over by Fr. Randy himself. Before heading back home, the OSF Sisters and OFM Brothers gathered everyone who dedicated their time joining the annual personnel recollection and those who served FCIC for one to three, and eiggt years to offer prayers. All the employees were blessed by the Prayer of St. Francis. This gesture touched many hearts, reminding everyone that FCIC is more than just a workplace, it is a family rooted in compassion, faith, and mutual support. The school president, also eztend her heartfelt gratitude and joy to those who will be serving FCIC for more years.
The entire day served not only as a spiritual renewal but also as a reminder of the value of hope, the power of prayer, and the strength of community. It was indeed a day to remember. A day filled with grace, healing, and heartfelt connection.
