The Franciscan College of the Immaculate Conception (FCIC) officially launched its 80th Founding Anniversary on July 22, 2026, at the FCIC Gymnasium, bringing together students, faculty, administrators, alumni, local government officials, parents, and members of the community in a meaningful celebration of faith, gratitude, and the institution’s enduring legacy.
Guided by the theme, “Moving Forward Together to 80 Years and Beyond,” the celebration marked the beginning of a year-long commemoration, honoring FCIC’s remarkable journey of eight decades in forming individuals committed to academic excellence, servant leadership, and the enduring values of the Franciscan tradition.
The celebration commenced with a Thanksgiving Mass, offering a prayerful beginning to this milestone year and expressing gratitude for the countless blessings that have sustained the institution throughout its 80-year history. The Eucharistic celebration was followed by a vibrant procession featuring representatives from the Board of Trustees, alumni, top management, local government units, parents, student organizations, and the wider school community.
The opening program continued with the singing of the Philippine National Anthem and the FCIC Hymn by the Poverello Chorale, followed by the welcome address of School President Sr. M. Andrea Tomanda, OSF, DM. In her message, she reflected on FCIC’s enduring mission and the values that have guided the institution through the years.
“For 80 years, FCIC has stood as a beacon of Franciscan education grounded in unity, simplicity, integrity, and compassion. These values have shaped generations of learners, leaders, and servants of society who continue to embody the mission of truth, service, and peace.”
One of the highlights of the celebration was the Grand Anniversary Ritual: Lighting of the 80th Anniversary Cauldron, symbolizing the enduring flame of wisdom, faith, and hope that continues to illuminate the FCIC community. The ritual served as a powerful reminder of the institution’s rich heritage and its unwavering commitment to carrying its mission into the future.
The Jubilee celebration continued with the keynote address of Dr. Azucena Polo Mirambel, Municipal Mayor of Inopacan and an FCIC alumna, followed by an inspirational message from Baybay City Mayor Hon. Jose Carlos L. Cari, represented by Hon. Atty. Ernesto Butawan. Their messages underscored the vital role of education, community, and servant leadership in shaping future generations.
Reflecting on the significance of the jubilee celebration, Dr. Mirambel shared:
“In our Christian tradition, a jubilee means thanksgiving. It is a time to remember God’s faithfulness and to celebrate all the blessings we have received, whether small or great. The journey ahead invites us to pause, not because we have reached the end, but because we are preparing for a new beginning.”
Meanwhile, Hon. Atty. Ernesto Butawan reaffirmed the City Government of Baybay’s continued partnership with FCIC, emphasizing the shared commitment to educational excellence.
“With this invitation, the City Government helps FCIC to truly love the City of Baybay. From our collaboration years ago up until now, we are happy to let you know that FCICians continue to do their best in providing quality education for our students.”
The program also showcased the creativity and talents of the FCIC community through a special intermission performance by the Performing Arts Company, the premiere of the ‘Through the Decades’ commemorative trailer, the unveiling of the 80th Commemorative Logo, and the official declaration of the opening of the Jubilee Celebration. These presentations paid tribute to the institution’s rich history while inspiring the community to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead.
As FCIC celebrates 80 years of excellence in Franciscan education, the occasion serves as a reminder that its legacy is measured not only by the passage of time or its institutional achievements, but more importantly by the countless lives it has transformed, the values it has nurtured, and the communities it has faithfully served.
