CEBU CITY, Philippines – Reinforcing its commitment to research excellence and academic development, the Franciscan College of the Immaculate Conception (FCIC) was represented by Dr. Ernesto L. Alolo, Director for Research and Publication, and Mr. Jie R. Lim, MACDDS, Basic Education Research Coordinator and Quality Assurance Officer, at the Training-Workshop on Designing and Publishing Mixed-Methods Research in High-Impact Journals, held on July 8–10, 2026, at Castle Peak Hotel, Cebu City.
Organized by the Asian Society of Teachers for Research (ASTR), the three-day training workshop gathered researchers, educators, and academic leaders from across the country to strengthen their competencies in designing robust mixed-methods research and preparing manuscripts for publication in high-impact international journals.
The workshop featured renowned research experts Dr. Alexander S. Acosta of the Philippine School Doha and Dr. Imee Colonia Acosta of VCUarts Qatar. Through a series of lectures, workshops, and hands-on writing sessions, participants gained practical knowledge on mixed-methods research design, qualitative and quantitative data integration, scholarly writing, publication ethics, journal selection, and strategies for successfully navigating the peer-review and publication process.
Representing FCIC, Dr. Alolo and Mr. Lim actively engaged in collaborative discussions and research writing activities, further enhancing their expertise in research methodology and scholarly publication. Their participation reflects the institution’s continuing efforts to strengthen its research culture and expand opportunities for faculty members and students to produce high-quality, impactful research.
The insights and competencies acquired during the training are expected to contribute significantly to FCIC’s research and publication initiatives, fostering a culture of innovation, evidence-based practice, and academic excellence. The knowledge gained will be shared through institutional research initiatives, faculty development activities, and mentoring programs to further enhance the research capabilities of the FCIC academic community.
