Franciscan College of the Immaculate Conception (FCIC) proudly recognizes the outstanding achievement of Grade 8 student Javan Raj T. Ramirez, who played a pivotal role in helping Crossroad Leyte claim the NYBL Global Cup Philippines 2025 14U Division Championship. The national tournament, held in Makati City from November 26 to 30, 2025, brought together talented youth teams from across the country and abroad. After four days of intense competition, Crossroad Leyte secured the championship title on November 30, delivering a powerful performance in the 5v5 division that showcased their discipline, heart, and teamwork.
Coached by Apolinario B. Encenares with assistant coach Guy Inopiquez Simbajon, Crossroad Leyte competed in a challenging series of games leading up to the finals. The team opened with a win against Canada, suffered a setback with a loss to JVM Manila, and then regained control of their campaign with a crucial victory over the Makati Stars. Their resilience and focus carried them into a championship rematch with JVM Manila, where the team delivered an impressive 71–54 victory, securing the national title and cementing their status as one of the top youth basketball teams in the country.
Representing FCIC and the City of Baybay, Javan Raj T. Ramirez served as a key contributor in the team’s success. Playing both small forward and power forward, Ramirez delivered important assists, steals, and blocks throughout the tournament. His versatility and consistent hustle helped create opportunities for his teammates and maintain momentum in crucial stretches of the game. Despite the challenge of living far apart—making regular team practices difficult—the players committed to months of individual training, relying on personal discipline and determination to prepare for the competition.
The team’s journey was marked by several obstacles, including long travel hours, limited opportunities for full-team practice, and the pressure of facing strong opponents on a national stage. Yet, they persevered—strengthened by the support of their families, communities, and schools. For Ramirez, the championship was a fulfilling milestone. “I feel proud of myself and thankful to the Lord,” he shared after the win. He credited his drive to the people closest to him, saying, “My mother and father motivate me because of their sacrifices.” Reflecting on the experience, he added that “the joyful moments and our teamwork for each other” stood out as the most memorable parts of the tournament.
This national victory brings pride not only to Crossroad Leyte but also to FCIC, as Ramirez proudly carried the name of the institution throughout the competition. His achievement reflects FCIC’s commitment to developing well-rounded learners—students who exhibit integrity, excellence, and resilience in their academic and personal pursuits. Moments like these affirm the school’s mission to shape individuals who make meaningful contributions to their communities and represent FCIC with honor.
Looking forward, the team is setting its sights on an even larger stage as they prepare to compete in the Malaysian Game, where they will face international-level competition. Their upcoming participation signals the growing presence and potential of young athletes from Leyte and the Eastern Visayas region.
Crossroad Leyte’s championship run stands as a testament to dedication, teamwork, and faith—values that FCIC continues to cultivate in every learner.
